Won't let Karan down: Alia Bhatt

aliabhatt2.jpg
Mahesh Bhatt's 19-year-old daughter Alia Bhatt, who is making her debut with Karan Johar's Student of the Year, says she will prove that her director's confidence in newcomers was right. The young actress has been promoting the film with two other newcomers Sidharth Malhotra and
Varun Dhawan, son of director David Dhawan. Alia says she is determined to prove her acting capabilities with this film.
"He (Johar) has worked with the best in the industry while neither of us had ever faced the camera before. I have to ensure that he is not let down. There is a pressure of different kind. We all want to make the audience happy as once they accept you, all noises die down," she said.
Alia says Karan, who is working with the newcomers for the first time, was patient with them. "I was very nervous working with Karan. I couldn't ever imagine that he would be so patient with us. He has worked with the best people and we used to give so many takes. He understood that we were newcomers and had to be guided."
The actress admits that having a cinema background helps initially but says ultimately it all comes down to talent. "Yes, being from a film family helps because you get a good platform and recognition. However, many people don't understand that at the end of the day, I am an individual performing in front of the camera and Bhatt lineage doesn't make any difference whatsoever," she said.
Alia says her director father is very excited about her debut film. "He is the most excited of the lot. He has been sharing feedback with me on a constant basis. Whenever he likes something, he tells me," she said.

Gorgeous Kareena Kapoor stuns as a bride!

Actor Kareena Kapoor turned heads at her wedding party with Saif Ali Khan at a Mumbai five-star on Tuesday evening. Looking stunning in a deep burgundy garara, she was seen greeting the guests that included actors Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Anil Kapoor who came with daughter Sonam.
Bebo’s cousin, actor Ranbir Kapoor, who missed the pre-wedding functions, attended this one. Interestingly, the wedding was also attended by Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter Shweta whose husband is Kareena’s cousin, despite the relations between them being strained since the engagement between Shweta’s brother, Abhishek, and Kareena’s sister, Karisma, broke off years ago.

Katrina goes for Hrithik!

MUMBAI, Oct. 18 -- It's out that Priyanka Chopra will be seen in Yash Raj Films's next, Gunday, alongside Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor. It's also known that Katrina Kaif was in the running for the same role.
Now we have been informed that it was Katrina who opted out of the film due to date issues. Apparently, the actor was offered Gunday and the Hindi remake of the Tom Cruise's hit Knight And Day (starring Hrithik Roshan). However, both are starting around the same time - February-March 2013. So, she had no option but to opt out of one film.
"It's not like she chose Hrithik over Arjun and Ranveer. Since people loved her with Hrithik in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011), she thought it's time to rekindle their on-screen chemistry again," says an insider.
Not many know that Katrina is also close to Arjun (she considers him her brother). "But Hrithik does fewer films. So, if she misses out on the Knight And Day remake, no one knows when she will get an opportunity to work with him again. But Katrina wants to work with Arjun or Ranveer whenever she gets an opportunity," adds the insider.
Despite repeated attempts, Katrina remained unavailable for a comment, as she is shooting for Dhoom:3 in Chicago. However, her spokesperson confirmed the news: "Katrina loved the script of Gunday, but due to date issues she couldn't be part of the movie."

Raveena Tandon wins best actress at Houston

#This week Raveena Tandon has much reason to rejoice. She has won the Best Actress award for her performance in Sudipto Chattopadhyay's Shobhna's 7 Nights at the Houston Bollywood Film Festival which concluded on October 7 with the announcement of Raveena's triumph.

Interestingly, there is only one acting award at the Houston Bollywood Film Festival which covers both the male and female category of nominations. Raveena therefore beat competition from Abhay Deol and Emraan Hashmi in Dibakar Bannerjee's Shanghai to get the award.

Squealing in delight from Houston after the announcement, Raveena said, "I've hardly received awards in my career so far. I did get the National award for Daman. But that was a one-off thing. I thought I deserved recognition for Shool and Aks. But I was seen as glamorous commercial actress. Hence, not eligible for awards. Now when I've played the most glamorous role of my life, I get the Best Actress award. Ironical, isn't it?"

She was specially kicked about beating male competition with her performance. "In India and in most awards the world over, they have separate categories for male and female performance. But here in Houston we were all judged in the same category. That was quite flattering."

Ranbir - PC to skip Big B's birthday bash

#Amitabh Bachchan's 70th birthday bash to be held tonight is the most talked about event as almost everyone from the industry is said to be attending his party.

Incidentally however, Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor will not be able to attend Big B's bash. The duo's latest film Barfi! has been selected for the Busan International Film Festival in the Open Cinema Section and they would be attending the screening.

Barfi! has been a very important film for both Ranbir and Priyanka as it has done very well and earned both critical and commercial acclaim even crossing the coveted Rs.100 crore nett mark.

The screening date had been decided way earlier and so Ranbir and Priyanka had no choice but to go for the film festival giving Amitabh Bachchan's birthday bash a miss.
